Non-Contact Technologies, LLC, a small business located in Tullahoma, TN has entered into a contract with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd. (DHI) to provide tip timing equipment, software, and services to aid in gas turbine engine research and testing to support the development of a large power generation gas turbine. Deliveries of the equipment are to begin later this year, with commissioning and warranty work to extend for two years. The contract includes sensors, acquisition hardware, online monitoring software, and offline post processing software.
The contract is a breakthrough for NCT, which is in only its second year of operation. NCT was formed in January 2017 with vision to provide practical, proven blade vibration measurement tools using Non-contact Stress Measurement System (NSMS) or Tip Timing to government and commercial customers. NCT staff consists of internationally recognized leaders for NSMS software, data acquisition, and standardization of the measurement. An agreement with the Air Force allows NCT to commercialize the NSMS technology that the staff developed over the last 17 years, while providing value and continued updates back to the Air Force.
“NCT is honored to be selected by DHI to provide Tip Timing engineering services, data acquisition, and software to assist DHI in all phases of blade vibration testing of newly developed gas turbine engine products,” said Bryan Hayes, President/CEO of NCT. “With the Tip Timing data acquisition and software capabilities that we provide, our products and engineering services will be able to support any manufacturer of turbomachinery products for their blade vibration needs.”
DHI, a major player in the power industry based in South Korea, specializes in power generation equipment such as boilers, turbines, wind turbines, and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction). DHI is responsible for the entire project, from design and engineering to equipment production, installation, and commissioning in overseas power and desalination markets.
NCT has developed the next generation Tip Timing hardware and software, integrating tip clearance measurements into the tip timing data. NCT also provides test services for tip timing applications including test planning, data acquisition, test support, data processing, and data reporting. Training services for tip timing are also available. Company sales are projected to reach $2M in FY2018. NCT customers include Air Force Research Lab, Arnold Engineering Development Complex, NASA Glenn Research, Test Devices, and Analytical Mechanics Associates.
